ANTIOCH -- Some of this city's gridiron greats will be taking the field in July to help future players learn the game.

Sign-ups are underway for a football clinic that will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 19 at Deer Valley High School. The clinic for ages 13 to 18 is a joint effort between the football programs at Antioch and Deer Valley high schools and the Antioch Sports Legends alumni organization.

The program is targeted at kids from the Antioch school district interested in learning life and football skills from some of the East Contra Costa city's great football players, said Steve Parks of the Sports Legends.

Former NFL players scheduled to appear include Mark Butterfield, Jeremy Newberry, John Olenchalk and Ron Pritchard.

Preregistration is being held until June 7. The cost is $35 for students in the Antioch Unified School District, and $40 for nondistrict students. Registration after June 7 is $45.
