East Contra Costa drivers looking to head toward Oakland or San Francisco in the early morning hours may have to find another way to get on Highway 4 this week.

Westbound Highway 4 will be closed from Laurel Road in Oakley to Hillcrest Avenue in Antioch from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. overnight Tuesday and Wednesday.

That closure is for construction of connector ramps from Highway 4 to Highway 160.

Also during the overnight hours on Wednesday into early Thursday, the westbound onramp from Sand Creek Road onto the freeway in Brentwood will be closed from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Contractors for the project, which will widen the road from two to four lanes, will be erecting concrete girders over Sand Creek as part of a bridge widening.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and should allow extra commute time.
