SAN RAMON -- A new Dougherty Valley elementary school's attendance boundaries were unanimously approved Tuesday by the San Ramon Valley Unified School Board.
Scheduled to open in fall 2016, the school will be at Bollinger Canyon and Dougherty Valley roads, south of Windemere Ranch Middle School. It will accommodate one of the area's last pockets of new housing -- and about 200 Live Oak Elementary students, living a few miles north on Bollinger Canyon Road at Windemere's Ambridge and Shelborne townhouses and Canyon Oaks and Muirlands apartments.
About 80 people opposed the move in a petition -- and three spoke up at the meeting, calling it unfair because they've been moved numerous times.
But board members said was the best way to balance enrollment, keep neighborhoods together and minimize crossover traffic. Also students who'd already started at the other elementary schools would be grandfathered in and wouldn't be required to move.
The school will also house the valley's Transitional Kindergarten and 4th and 5th grade Academic Talent programs.
