PLEASANTON -- The public is invited to join in the singing of the national anthem at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lions Wayside Park. It is part of a national celebration of the 200th birthday of "The Star Spangled Banner" -- it's also Flag Day.
The park is at 4401 First St.
The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History has invitged Americans on Saturday to join sing-a-longs around the country, including one at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
In Pleasanton, members of the Jose Maria Amador Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host the sing, and they invite the public to join them.
The group also invites the public to join them in a bring-your-own food picnic at the park beginning at noon.
Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the lyrics for the song after seeing the flag survive the British bombardment of Fort McHenry in 1812.
