RICHMOND -- An Amtrak train hit a tractor-trailer Saturday afternoon in unincorporated Richmond after the big rig stalled on the tracks.
No one was injured. The truck's driver, unable to restart the engine, was able to exit the vehicle before it was struck, said Officer Sean Wilkenfeld, a California Highway Patrol spokesman. The incident occurred shortly before 4 p.m.
However, the train driver was unable to stop in time and struck the tractor portion of the vehicle; none of the 131 passengers aboard the train was hurt.
The train was able to continue under its own power after the accident's investigation was concluded.
