Orinda and Moraga will have Independence Day celebrations today offering a variety of fun ways to celebrate the Fourth of July.
Orinda's annual Fourth of July celebration is scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m. with a pancake breakfast and include a run/walk, the popular parade (featuring the Orinda All-Volunteer Marching Band) classic cars, live music and plenty of other activities for the family.
The pancake breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Orinda Community Center, 28 Orinda Way. That will be followed by Haley's Run for a Reason, named for Haley Tom, an Orinda girl who was 21 months old when she died in 2000 of Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. All proceeds from this event benefit The SUDC Program (http://www.sudc.org/), which serves people affected by SUDC, promotes awareness of SUDC and raises money for research.
Because of an editor's error, a story in the June 27 Sun about the local Fourth of July events stated there was a separate fun run, as has occurred in past years. But there is in fact no fun run this year.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. by the Orinda Theatre, and various activities begin at the Orinda Community Center Park about 11:30 a.m. For more information, go to www.orindaassociation.org
Town of Moraga festivities run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.at Moraga Commons; fireworks -- paid for largely through a community-based funding effort -- are set to start at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Moraga's Fourth of July celebration also will include fun runs (including a 5-miler), a pancake breakfast, community booths, a kids bike parade, food booths and entertainment by Busta Groove.
