OAKLAND -- A suspect has been arrested in the fatal shooting Saturday morning of a 26-year-old Stockton man in East Oakland, police said Monday.
Police said the victim, Xzavier Johnson, was acquainted with the suspect, but they were not friends.
The name of the suspect, a 20-year-old man, was not released pending review of the case by the district attorney's office. He was being held without bail on suspicion of murder.
The shooting happened about 10:20 a.m. Saturday on Lyon Avenue near High Street.
Sgt. Mike Cardoza said the two men had a personal dispute that ended in the shooting. He did not say what the dispute was about.
The suspect fled after the shooting and a friend of Johnson's started driving him to a hospital. But they stopped in the 2700 block of Foothill Boulevard where help was summoned. Johnson was pronounced dead there.
Police said that even though Johnson was living in Stockton, he had family and friends in Oakland and frequently visited.
