WALNUT CREEK -- A vegetation fire burned five acres of land near the Shell Ridge Open Space on Tuesday, a fire official said.

The blaze was reported at 2:13 p.m., and burned near Indian Valley Elementary School in Walnut Creek, said Contra Costa Fire Protection District Capt. Robert Marshall. The fire was controlled by 2:38 p.m., Marshall said.

No structures were threatened and there were no injuries. Authorities received a report of people lighting off fireworks in the area before the fire broke out, but the cause remains under investigation.
