PITTSBURG -- Nonprofit agency St. Vincent de Paul of Contra Costa is hosting an informational event next week for a new work force development class session that includes paid, on-the-job training.
The free event will be held 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Loaves and Fishes dining room, 1415 Simpson Court.
The goal of the program, now in its third year, is to help local residents find long-term, satisfactory work at a decent wage, St. Vincent de Paul development director Barbara Hunt said this week.
Many of the clients are formerly incarcerated or have been out of the workforce for some time, she said.
The program provides a 24-week paid, part-time job at St. Vincent de Paul and intensive job-readiness training with advice on resume preparation, interview practice and financial literacy. It also includes one-on-one mentoring.
To be eligible, participants must have access to reliable transportation, live in a stable environment with access to adequate hygiene facilities, and, if needed, have reliable child or elder care.
