DANVILLE -- The Hot Summer Nights car shows are headed to the streets of downtown Danville, showcasing a fleet of rare hot rods and classic cars.

In its 20th year, the Danville tradition will draw thousands of cars junkies from throughout the state and country for two free summer shows. They will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. on Thursday and Thursday, Aug. 14.

Hundreds of cars will line Hartz Avenue and side streets for the event, which will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Mustang and the Pontiac GTO by inviting owners of such cars from all years to show off their rides.

Live bands and entertainment will beckon visitors to dance in the streets. Food vendors will hawk their delicacies to festival-goers, and sidewalk cafes and eateries, shops and boutiques, will be open for carousers to enjoy. Kid-friendly activities will be in store at Linda Mesa and Hartz avenues, where Jungle James Animal Adventures will be showing off friendly reptiles -- including family favorite and show-stopper last year, a live 100-plus pound turtle named Tank.
