OAKLAND -- A 37-year-old man was shot multiple times Wednesday night while standing on an East Oakland street, police said Thursday.

The victim was hit in the torso and arm, but is expected to recover. His name was not released.

The shooting happened about 9:19 p.m. Wednesday in the 5900 block of Fortune Way, off Seminary Avenue.

Police said the victim was standing on the sidewalk when a man approached him on foot and shot him multiple times. The gunman then fled in a waiting car.

The man was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was in stable condition.

It was not immediately known if the man lived in the area or what he was doing there, and no motive for the shooting has been released.
