LIVERMORE -- Ticket sales for the upcoming "LVPAC Presents" season at the Bankhead Theater have more than doubled over the same point last year, the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center announced Wednesday.

According to the center, advance ticket purchases in the first five days after the season launched on June 26 were up 133 percent over the first five days last year. Single-performance tickets, which went on sale to the public on Aug. 5, have also received an "unusually high" response, center officials said.

"Our goal was to offer a broad range of events that would appeal to the equally broad tastes of audiences across the Tri-Valley and we believe we have delivered on that," said LVPAC theater Manager Ed Estrada in a news release.

The center is attempting to reach its 2014 fundraising goal of $4 million to pay a portion of its debt on the Bankhead Theater, part of a joint buyout proposal reached in June with the Bank of New York Mellon, the city of Livermore and Alameda County.

The center has raised about 75 percent of this year's goal, but must secure $323,000 by early September and the remainder of the $4 million by year's end to continue operations through 2014.
