DANVILLE -- The San Ramon Valley Democratic Club will host a meeting on big money in politics that will feature Derek Cressman, campaign director for the now-defunct "Yes on CA 49" and a past candidate for California Secretary of State.
The meeting will be held at 7:15 p.m. Aug. 28 at Crow Canyon Country Club, 711 Silver Lake Drive in Danville. He will talk about what he says is the critical need to reverse the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision and related rulings that allow unlimited corporate spending in federal elections -- and what to do about recent blocked efforts to reverse those decisions through Proposition 49.
In November, California voters would have had a say on this issue at the ballot through a measure calling for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, but the state Supreme Court recently ruled to remove it from the November ballot.
The meeting is free and open to the public. A donation of $5 is suggested. Networking starts at 6:15 p.m. The program starts at 7:15 p.m. A buffet dinner served at 6:45 p.m. is optional and costs $25 for nonmembers. To reserve a dinner spot, please RSVP to Jim Donnelly at 925-570-9289 or email@example.com.
