LIVERMORE -- The Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District plans to spray insecticide in Livermore Thursday evening after finding more mosquitoes infected with the West Nile virus near Bruno Canziani Park, district officials said.
Weather permitting, district personnel will spray from 10 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday in an area bordered by East Avenue to the north, Buena Vista Avenue to the west, South Vasco Road to the east, and Tesla Road to the south.
Livermore has been the location of 47 of the 58 West Nile-positive dead birds and 12 positive mosquito groups reported in Alameda County to date.
"The continued presence of West Nile virus infected mosquitoes at this site is a threat to the health of people living in this neighborhood," said district manager Chindi Peavey. "The district is dedicated to protecting the health of Alameda County residents, and based on our surveillance, we feel that action is needed to reduce the presence of adult mosquitoes in this area."
