OAKLAND -- Police are investigating the 50th homicide of the year following a fatal shooting at the flea market on Coliseum Way on Sunday afternoon.

Oakland police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said the shooting happened at 1:05 p.m. in the 5400 block of Coliseum Way. She said one person is dead, but the gender, name, age and city of residence were not immediately available. No arrests have been made. A motive in the shooting was not yet known.

The last homicide in the city was Aug. 3 -- almost a month ago which is unusual -- at 105th and Edes avenues when an Alameda County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed an unarmed man later identified as Jacorey Calhoun, 23.

Police tried to stop the man because he was thought to be linked to a violent home invasion robbery where a resident was pistol whipped in East Oakland in July. He failed to stop and was fatally shot by a deputy. That case remains under investigation.

In the Sunday afternoon killing, police and Crime Stoppers are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information should call Oakland police at 510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
