MARTINEZ -- A Pittsburg man with a violent criminal history was charged Monday with murder in the death of his wife of six years.
Pittsburg police arrested 51-year-old Kevin Easter on Wednesday after finding 52-year-old Janice Easter shot dead in their home in the 100 block of Army Street.
The Contra Costa District Attorney's Office complaint charges Easter with murder with use of a gun and alleges five strikes for multiple prior convictions for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Each strike calls for a punishment of 25 years to life. If convicted as charged, he faces a sentence of up to 175 years to life, prosecutor Mary Knox said.
Knox declined to comment on the circumstances that led to the slaying.
Easter is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday. The District Attorney's Office is seeking $3.5 million bail.
