PITTSBURG -- The last of four Ambrose pool community workshops will be held Saturday.
Plans are in the works to repair and reopen the pool, which was closed in 2009 and is more than six decades old. Ambrose Park is in Pittsburg near the Pittsburg-Bay Point BART station, but the 12-acre park is owned and maintained by the Ambrose Recreation & Park District.
At an earlier workshop held in July, board members unveiled a proposal to divide the existing 33-yard-long pool with a wall to create a 25-yard-long pool for lap swimming and an 8-yard-long shallow pool that could be used by children and seniors and for swimming lessons. The proposal was made after an earlier plan to demolish the old pool and build a new children's pool fell through when bids came in too high last year.
Saturday's workshop will provide an opportunity for park district officials to provide a progress report on where things stand with the pool project. The workshop starts at 10 a.m. and will be held in the dining room of the Ambrose Community Center, 3105 Willow Pass Road in Bay Point.
