SAN RAMON -- Want to help oversee San Ramon Valley Unified's parcel tax spending? Apply to be a member of the school district's Measure C Parcel Tax Oversight Committee from 2014 to 2016.
Applications can be found on the district website at SRVUSD.net and are due by Oct. 15. They can be submitted by email to Ann Handling at firstname.lastname@example.org, or dropped off or mailed to Parcel Tax Oversight Committee, Superintendent's Office, 699 Old Orchard Drive, Danville, Calif. 94526.
Comittee members are responsible for making sure the district spends the parcel tax funds as promised to voters. Work on the nine-member committee is not compensated and applicants do not need to be parents of students in the district.
More than two-thirds of district voters approved Measure C in May 2009. It is a seven-year, $144-per-parcel annual tax on district property owners to raise $6.7 million a year. The money cannot be spent on administrator salaries. It is intended to help offset state cuts to district funding, retain qualified and experienced teachers, buy instructional materials, equipment and supplies, and maintain math, science, literacy and other academic programs.
The school board will hear committee member recommendations on Nov. 12.
