San Ramon Valley gives DLS a tough test

  • San Ramon Valley's football team completed a brutal four-game nonleague stretch by showing mettle in a 47-21 loss at De La Salle, the No. 1 ranked team in the state by CalHiSports.com. The Wolves (1-3) fell the previous week to Folsom, ranked No. 3 in the state. The Wolves will host Livermore in their EBAL opener on Oct. 4.

    Foothill, California and Amador all win

  • Pleasanton rivals Foothill and Amador Valley remained undefeated with smashing victories to open the East Bay Athletic League football season on Sept. 27. The Dons (4-0, 1-0) led 21-0 at halftime in a 28-7 win over visiting Monte Vista, and the high-flying Falcons (5-0, 1-0) walloped Livermore 50-14. Foothill, averaging 43.4 points a game, will travel to Monte Vista (1-3, 0-1) on Oct. 4, and the Dons will host California (3-1, 1-0), which is coming off a nail-biting 16-14 win over Granada,

    Dublin girls golf stays undefeated in DFAL

  • Aileen Jeong shot a 2-over 39, and Jessica Jeong carded a 43 as the Dublin girls golf team improved to 9-0 in the Diablo Foothill Athletic League with a 230-240 win over Miramonte at Orinda Country Club on Sept. 25.

    Amador wins thriller over Carondelet

  • Amador Valley senior Kimberly Liu shot a 3-under 33 at Ruby Hill Golf Club as the Dons took a thrilling 206-207 win over Carondelet on Sept. 25, leaving both teams with 8-2 EBAL records.

    EBAL volleyball begins with a smash

  • Foothill, Monte Vista and San Ramon Valley earned impressive wins to open the EBAL volleyball season on Sept. 25. The touted Mustangs (14-2, 1-0) rallied past upset-minded Granada 25-21, 27-29, 24-26, 25-18, 15-6. Hailey Lindberg had 26 kills, and senior captain Jessy Ober had 50 assists to pace Monte Vista. Foothill's versatile Taylor Cruz had 10 kills and 15 digs in the Falcons' tense win over California 23-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 16-14. San Ramon Valley swept Amador Valley in three tough games 25-23, 25-16, 27-25. Wolves setter and senior captain Kate Berry had 29 assists and eight digs to go with two kills.

  • Dougherty Valley at Dublin, football, Oct. 4, 7 p.m. -- Fresh off a bye week, the improved Wildcats (3-1) will open DFAL play against the rival Gaels (2-3, 0-1).

  • California at Amador Valley, football, Oct. 4, 7 p.m. -- The Grizzlies and Dons will meet after earning wins in their league openers.

  • De La Salle vs. Servite-Anaheim, football, Oct. 5, 7:30 p.m. -- The Spartans head south to the Santa Ana Bowl to face a nationally-ranked Servite team with some impressive wins on its resume.

  • Madison Ricks, California -- Ricks had a solid effort in the Stanford Invitational Seeded Division, finishing 20th in a time of 19 minutes, 6 seconds on the 3.1-mile Stanford Golf Course on Sept. 28.

  • Brooke Starn, Monte Vista cross country -- Starn was 44th in the Seeded Division race at the Stanford Invitational in a time of 19:25.

  • Vanessa Giampaoli, Monte Vista golf -- Giampaoli shot a 2-over 40 at The Bridges Golf Club in San Ramon, helping the Mustangs best California 218-252 and stay unbeaten in EBAL play on Sept. 23.

  • Kimberly Liu, Amador Valley -- Liu continued her torrid pace with a 3-under 33 i the Dons' win over Carondelet.

  • Michael White, Amador Valley football -- White ran for 169 yards and two touchdowns as the Dons beat Monte Vista 28-7.

  • Alex Jader, Amador Valley football -- Jader, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound lineman, played a huge role in the Dons' win over Monte Vista in their league opener on Sept. 27.
