DANVILLE -- Food, clothing and other items will be collected for soldiers serving overseas as part of an Eagle Scout project honoring Joshua "Chachi" Corral, a San Ramon Valley High graduate and Marine who was killed in Afghanistan in 2011.

Valley Christian High sophomore Jonathan Landgraf will pass out more than 1,000 bags to homes near Monte Vista High School and Diablo Country Club on Nov. 2. The bags will be collected Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and delivered to the East Bay Blue Star Moms' warehouse.

The items will go into the Blue Star Moms' Holiday Hugs care packages, which will be delivered to service members all over the world, including friends of Corral's who have been re-deployed to Afghanistan.

Corral, who was 19 when he was killed, was the first Danville war death since James Cardinale was killed in Vietnam in 1968.
