ANTIOCH -- Portions of the Delta de Anza Trail will be closed this week as Contra Costa Water District crews work to clean the canal.
The annual cleaning of the Contra Costa Canal started Monday near Lone Tree Way in Antioch.
According to district officials, a large floating sled pushes debris such as vegetation and sediment down the canal and removes it at various spots with a large crane. The work is moving down the canal from east to west toward Clyde.
Portions of the trail will be closed where district employees are working because of the amount of heavy equipment required for the job and for public safety. Work will take place between 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and last about a week.
