MARTINEZ -- A Martinez man accused of trying to grab an 8-year-old girl near the Lafayette Library has pleaded not guilty to a felony attempted kidnapping charge.
Ralph Grohs, a transient with a history of arrests for public intoxication, entered his plea last week and is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing Oct. 28.
Lafayette police said they arrested Grohs on Oct. 12 after he attempted to grab the child near the library on Golden Gate Way before the girl's parent intervened.
Grohs is being held in the County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.
