That teacher who went the extra mile to help in a class. A mentor who gave great advice. Or that quiet classmate who just goes about his or her business.

The Contra Costa Community College District is seeking local nominations to recognize unsung heroes for their little-known, unique and aspiring contributions for students.

Awards will be given out at the district's 65th anniversary event on Dec. 7 in eight categories: Faculty, Classified Staff, Manager, Student, Alumni, Retiree, Volunteer and Community Partner.

The showcase event will feature programs and services offered at the district's five campuses.

"The public can nominate someone from any of these categories they feel has contributed and has made a difference in the lives of students," Michele Jackson, the program's coordinator, said in a news release.

To nominate an Unsung Hero, visit the district's 65th Anniversary website at www.4cd.edu.

Nominations must be made by Oct. 31.
