WALNUT CREEK -- The City Council will get a look Tuesday at a plan to build homes on the site of the shuttered Contra Costa Jewish Community Center.
Pulte Homes is in contract to buy the six-acre site near Rossmoor, and has said it wants to demolish the existing center and build medium-density housing on the property at 2071 Tice Valley Blvd.
At 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, during a special meeting of the City Council at City Hall, the council will discuss Pulte's request for a general plan amendment for residential development on the land. This is a pre-application review, which means developers are looking for a thumbs-up or thumbs-down on even moving forward. If the council approves going ahead, Pulte will have many more meetings, and an environmental review would be necessary.
The JCC closed in December 2011 after officials there said they could no longer afford to keep it open.
