PITTSBURG -- The East Bay chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers Jr. is the recipient of a 2013 Promise Grant bestowed by Dow Chemical's Pittsburg plant.
The $9,780 grant will be used to buy robotic kits, laptop computers and printers as well as science and technology books that will be used next year in 24 STEM (science, technology, education and math) workshops hosted by the East Bay chapter. The workshops provide underserved students with tutoring in math, science, and language arts through classroom work and online tutorials.
The mission of NSBE Jr. is to encourage more minorities to pursue careers in science and engineering through mentor-based programs that help build STEM skills. Dow's Promise program was created to support such endeavors.
