ANTIOCH -- Police are investigating a pair of unrelated shootings that occurred on opposite sides of the city Wednesday afternoon that left two men with injuries.

Police responded to the 4300 block of Rock Island Drive around 1:45 p.m. after a man was shot in the stomach during an attempted robbery, according to a news release.

A 19-year-old was walking with two friends when they were confronted by three men that drove up on them in a vehicle. They exited the car, and one demanded the teen give up some jewelry that he was wearing.

When he refused, the suspect produced a weapon and shot him once in the upper chest area, police said. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

About an hour later, police responded to a call on the 400 block of E. 18th Street where a 26-year-old man was shot in the leg following a confrontation with some unknown people in a vehicle.

In both instances, the suspects fled in unknown vehicles.

Both victims are expected to survive, Corporal James McMurry said.
