CONCORD -- Out-of-town visitors lost their luggage and other valuables Thursday night when someone broke into their rental van while they dined at a restaurant.
Police received a call reporting the burglary in the Elephant Bar parking lot off Willow Pass Road at about 9 p.m., said Sgt. Carl Cruz.
Martinez resident Heather Quisenberry said she was having dinner with her friend Jill Phillips and Phillips' grandson, Sean Phillips, who are visiting from Detroit. The musicians traveled here to record songs at a studio in Concord.
Thieves took two laptops, a guitar, Christmas presents and a box of Jill Phillips' new CDs -- she records under the name Jill Detroit, according to Quisenberry.
But the missing luggage presented the most urgent problem because it contained Sean Phillips' medication. Sean Phillips, who received a heart transplant about two years ago, must take medication every 12 hours, Quisenberry said. The family rushed to John Muir Regional Medical Center where they waited several hours for replacement pills, Quisenberry said. Sean Phillips refilled his prescription at a pharmacy on Friday, she added.
