An 18-year-old Redwood City woman who police say set her boyfriend's bed on fire while he slept pleaded not guilty Wednesday to felony charges of attempted murder, arson and burglary.
Just before 3 a.m. on April 26, Jacqueline Alexandra Rivera slipped into the San Mateo home where her 21-year-old boyfriend lived with his family, entered his bedroom and set the mattress on fire, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office. Rivera was reportedly upset because she believed he was cheating on her.
The man escaped with minor burns on his hands and arms.
Rivera was arrested on May 7 after one of her friends sent a text to the victim saying she had admitted to the crime.
In court on Wednesday, Rivera pleaded not guilty to all charges; she is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on June 28 at 2 p.m.
She remains in custody on $500,000 bail.
