BART issued the following tips to avoid being a victim:

  • Avoid using your phone or electronic device near train doors, during station stops or when exiting the station.

  • Never lend your phone to strangers.

  • Be aware of your surroundings and who is sitting next to you.

  • Use your cell phone discreetly.
