A man was arrested for allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend at the Fremont BART station early Sunday morning and walking off with their 2-year-old daughter, BART police said.
The little girl was found with the man a few hours later and was believed to be unharmed, authorities said. She was returned to her mother.
The incident began after a 22-year-old woman drove to the Fremont BART station to drop off her former boyfriend about 2:03 a.m. Sunday, said BART police Lt. Randy Gregson.
A dispute began and the man assaulted her, slamming her head against the steering wheel, Gregson said. He damaged the door of her car, then walked away with their daughter.
Officers searched the area and found the man and little girl after an AC Transit bus driver reported seeing them at the Fremont BART station about 7:25 a.m. Sunday.
Julius Johnson, 23, was arrested and taken to Fremont City Jail, where he was being held on suspicion of domestic violence, vandalism, child endangerment and depriving another of custody rights.
The woman was treated and released at Washington Hospital in Fremont for an injury to her head, Gregson said.
