A married couple was ordered to lie on the floor while a group of armed men ransacked their Mountain View apartment early Monday morning, police said.

The home-invasion robbery on the 700 block of Sylvan Avenue began at about 5:45 a.m. when the husband was confronted by five people while walking to his car, police said. One of the suspects allegedly had a handgun.

Police said the husband was punched in the face and escorted back inside his apartment, where his wife was still asleep. The couple was then told to lie on the floor while the suspects allegedly stole cash and a briefcase containing a handgun.

The couple called 911 shortly after the suspects ran off, police said.

The suspects wore dark-colored clothing and had most of their faces covered up, police said. Detectives are currently following up on leads and do not believe the crime was random.

Anyone with information about the home-invasion robbery is asked to call the Mountain View Police Department at 650-903-6395. Callers may remain anonymous.
