A fight broke out in downtown San Jose on Wednesday evening, leaving one man dead and the police investigating the city's 35th homicide of the year.

San Jose police were called to the 100 block of South Second Street at 8:27 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a disturbance involving a fight. When police arrived, they found an adult male who wasn't breathing. Suspects had fled the scene. Police started CPR, but the man was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 9:55 p.m, according to a police department press release.

The precise cause of death was not known Wednesday evening, the report said.

No suspects had been identified or apprehended by midnight and the motive and circumstances of the homicide are under investigation. The identity of the victim is being withheld until his relatives are notified. More information is expected Thursday.
