SAN JOSE -- Investigators have arrested a 30-year-old man they say beat another man to death during a street fight in downtown San Jose last week.
The announcement on Wednesday was nearly a week after the arrest of Curtis Kilgore, of San Jose, in connection with the Oct. 3 brawl on South Second Street that ended in the death of Hugo Humberto Hernandez, 52, also a San Jose resident.
Witness statements helped detectives identify and arrest Kilgore on Oct. 4 in San Jose, police said. The arrest occurred a day after the two reportedly got into an argument near East San Fernando Street.
A motive for the confrontation, as well as any connection between the victim and suspect, remain unclear.
Kilgore is being held without bail in the Santa Clara County main jail.
Hernandez's death marked the city's 35th of the year; San Jose has now tallied 36 homicides in 2012, three shy of the 15-year high recorded in 2011, with nearly three months left in the year.
