SAN JOSE -- A suspicious package left on a Valley Transit Authority bus was determined to be empty after bomb squad investigators from the sheriff's office used an X-ray on the item.
The package was found around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, causing the evacuation of passengers and precautionary closures of streets near the bus, in the area of Monterey Highway and Capitol Expressway. Bus lines 66 and 68 were rerouted around the area.
At 8:14 p.m., the Santa Clara County sheriff's bomb squad did a "careful X-ray" of the package and "it was deemed to be empty," according to sheriff's Sgt. Jose Cardoza.
Roadways were reopened shortly after the finding.
