SAN MATEO -- The man hit and killed by a train Friday evening on the tracks at the Hayward Park Caltrain station has been identified as an Oakland resident.
Gregory Dean Burgess, 56, was killed in the accident, according to the San Mateo County coroner's office.
Caltrain is still investigating the collision, which occurred about 7:15 p.m., spokeswoman Christine Dunn said. Although the station has a pedestrian crossing, Dunn said she was unsure whether Burgess was in the crossing when he was struck.
The San Jose to San Francisco train had not been scheduled to stop at the station but came to a halt about a half-mile north of the accident site, officials reported. None of the 100 people on board were injured.
