SANTA CLARA -- A home burglary prompted an extensive manhunt near the Santa Clara University campus Monday morning that netted one arrest but ended with another suspect still in the wind, police said.

A resident near Washington and Newhall streets called police about 7:50 a.m. Monday to report two suspicious men in the neighborhood, said Lt. Matt Hogan.

An arriving officer spotted the pair, who immediately ran upon seeing him. Police surrounded the area and soon arrested one suspect. They summoned police dogs and embarked on a door-to-door search of an area roughly bounded by Washington, Newhall and Alviso streets.

Officers cleared the area by 10:40 a.m. but did not find the second suspect.

Further details were not immediately available. Check back later for updates to this story.
