SAN JOSE -- A man died early Friday after being stabbed at an office party in North San Jose, marking the city's 45th homicide of the year.

Police spent the morning examining the crime scene, an office at a large business complex in the 1600 block of Oakland Road, near Brokaw Road. The victim was stabbed during a party being held at an office called The Agency, police said.

Police do not believe the killing is gang-related, said Officer Albert Morales, a department spokesman.

The victim was found just before 3 a.m. after police responded to a report of stabbing in the office located in the PS Business Parks complex, Morales said.

Officers found the man suffering from at least one stab wound. He was taken to Regional Medical Center of San Jose, where he was pronounced dead at 3:38 a.m.

No suspects have been identified, and the motive behind the homicide is under investigation. The man's identity is being withheld until the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office can notify his family.

The death adds to a homicide tally that is the highest since San Jose recorded 53 in 1991, and comes on the heels of a two-year spike: 40 homicides occurred last year, doubling a 2010 count that was a 20-year low.
