SAN JOSE -- An elementary school in East San Jose was placed on lockdown for about an hour Friday morning while police searched for two people believed to be armed in the area.

Police were summoned to the 1700 block of Monrovia Drive after a resident reported seeing two people hop a fence into her back yard and retrieved a handgun, Officer Albert Morales said. Officers tracked a car linked to the pair and cornered the suspects to a house near Sanders Elementary School, which is located at 3411 Rocky Mountain Drive.

At 8:35 a.m., the school was ordered to lock its doors. Around 9:45 a.m., police declared that the school was not in danger and lifted the lockdown.

By 11:30 a.m., police had cleared the house of its occupants and searched the home, but found no gun. One person was arrested for an undisclosed parole violation, and the case remains under investigation.
