The annual holiday crackdown on drunken driving in Santa Clara County has resulted in 302 arrests since Dec. 14, and extra are patrols planned for the upcoming New Year's Eve celebrations, according to law enforcement officials.

That number could rise because not all agencies have reported their arrests, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.

The arrests stemmed from local routine traffic enforcement and special Avoid the 13 DUI deployments during the past several days, according to Sgt. Jose Cardoza of the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.

At this time last year there were 317 DUI arrests in Santa Clara County.

The crackdown began at 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 14 and runs through midnight on New Year's Day.

Law enforcement agencies have extra DUI saturation patrols scheduled to be deployed in Mountain View, Los Altos, Palo Alto, Los Gatos, Santa Clara, San Jose, Cupertino, Gilroy and Morgan Hill, according to the sheriff's office. DUI checkpoints will be conducted in Cupertino, Morgan Hill and Mountain View.

The CHP will be deploying all available officers for their Maximum Enforcement Period during the New Year's holiday weekend beginning tonight at 6 p.m. until midnight Tuesday, Jan. 1.
