SANTA CRUZ -- Police arrested a man in a burglary after he was chased from the home he entered on Walnut Street early Tuesday morning.
A woman was sleeping in her bed on the 300 block of Walnut Street just after 4 a.m. when she was awakened by a man standing over her, said Santa Cruz Police Deputy Chief Steve Clark.
The woman's boyfriend also was in the home and he threatened the intruder with a Samurai sword and a flare, Clark said. The suspect fled. They called 911.
Police arrived and found Jose Manuel Gomez urinating on the home's front door according to police.
Gomez was arrested on suspicion of burglary about 4:35 a.m. He is being held in Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, according to jail records.
Gomez, a 23-year-old transient from Watsonville, has an "extensive" arrest history that includes trespassing and sexual battery, Clark said.
