OAKLAND -- A 17-year-old boy was identified Tuesday as the city's first homicide victim of the year, police said.
Tyronta Mickens was shot multiple times at 12:47 p.m. Monday while sitting in a car in a parking lot at Hegenberger Road and Hamilton Street, police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.
He was alone in the car when police arrived. No other injuries were reported.
Police do not have a motive in the shooting or any suspects in custody. Police did not release the victim's city of residence.
The shooting comes after a bloody 2012, when 131 people were killed. That was the highest annual homicide tally since 2006, when 148 people were killed.
Anyone with information about the shooting should call Oakland Police at 510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572 or 510-777-3211. There is a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the suspects in the killing.
