PALO ALTO -- Police are searching for a man they believe has exposed himself to two women within a two-day period this week.

The most recent incident happened Thursday morning near a fitness center at 440 Portage Ave., according to Palo Alto police.

An employee of the fitness center Equinox called police to say a female customer had just seen a man with his pants down near the gym. The woman was walking through a newly-constructed hallway enclosed by clear glass walls when she saw the man, who was standing outside and looking through the glass wall.

The woman told a fitness center employee that the man walked away, eastbound on Acacia Avenue toward Fry's Electronics. The woman told employees she did not want to involve police, but staff members immediately called 911 to report the incident. She left the gym before officers arrived.

Police have been attempting to locate the woman, whose age is presently unknown, to get a detailed statement and description of the person from her.

The woman described the man to the staff member as a white male in his 20s, between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall. He weighed about 180 pounds and had dark hair. The suspect was wearing a black sweatshirt and black sweatpants. The hood of the sweatshirt was pulled up over his head.

The first incident occurred Tuesday at 11:14 p.m. in a parking lot on Sherman Avenue, less than a half-mile away from fitness center, according to police.

Detectives believe the same person is involved in both incidents. Officers are increasing patrols in the area. Before these two crimes, there had been no similar cases reported in Palo Alto for the past several months.

Police ask that anyone who may have information about these crimes contact a 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413. Anonymous tips can be emailed to paloalto@tipnow.org or sent via text message or voice mail to 650-383-8984.
