SAN FRANCISCO -- A driver who failed to pull over during a traffic stop in Fremont led officers on a car chase for nearly an hour Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol said.

The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was initially asked by officers to pull over on northbound Interstate 880 at Whipple Road around 10:23 p.m., CHP officers said.

The driver continued on, and officers began to follow.

The driver traveled through multiple cities, including Oakland, before getting onto the Bay Bridge and crossing over into San Francisco.

CHP officers attempted multiple times to use spike strips on the freeway to stop the driver, but to no avail.

Officers were finally able to stop the driver with spike strips around 11:09 p.m. at 14th Street and South Van Ness Avenue, when he pulled off the freeway onto surface streets. The driver never exceeded speed limits during the nearly hour-long chase, the CHP said.

The driver was arrested for evading police officers and driving under the influence, according to CHP.
