GILROY -- Investigators are trying to find out why a couple tried to lure an 11-year-old boy to their car in unincorporated Gilroy shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday.

According to Santa Clara County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jose Cardoza, the boy was taking out the trash at his home on the 1000 block of Rucker Avenue and when he got to the bottom of the long driveway in the rural area near Korn Way, he noticed a tan compact car similar to a Mini Cooper was parked nearby.

"The occupants said something similar to 'Hey, come here kid,' and tried to get his attention," Cardoza said.

The boy got scared and ran back to his home and told his parents, Cardoza said.

He said they are not classifying the incident as an attempted kidnapping because nobody got our of the vehicle or committed an "overt action."

"Who knows what was going on?" he said. "But the bottom line is the boy didn't recognize them, and didn't know them, and got scared."

He said the boy is unharmed, but a little shook up from the incident.

The man was described as Hispanic and in his 30s, with an average build, no facial hair, wearing a baseball cap. The woman was also described as Hispanic and average in build, in her 20s with long dark hair and dressed in dark clothing.
