SALINAS -- A 10-month-old girl's body has been found in a farm field near Salinas, just days after she was reported missing, the Monterey County sheriff's office said.
The girl's father, Jesus Espinoza, 47, was arrested in Los Angeles on Monday on suspicion of murder and kidnapping. He is being held without bail at Monterey County Jail.
The baby girl -- named Angelle Negron -- was last seen alive Feb. 2, just before police say Espinoza picked her up at her grandmother's house in Castroville.
Police say Espinoza called family members four days later, saying he was taking the child to Disneyland.
The baby's mother and grandmother told authorities they became concerned days later when Espinoza never returned.
The sheriff's office said it was alerted by the concerned family Feb. 16, when it launched an investigation. The office notified the media but did not issue an Amber Alert.
Los Angeles police and FBI agents found Espinoza waiting at a Greyhound bus stop, and authorities say he later told them where they would find the girl's body.
The body was in a field near Highway 183. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.
Espinoza could be arraigned on the allegations as early as 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Monterey County Superior Court in Salinas, Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Hulsey said.
The district attorney's office was still reviewing investigative reports Wednesday and so the arraignment may be postponed, said Hulsey, who is part of the office's child abuse and sexual assault section.
There is no report yet from the county coroner's office about the cause of Angelle's death, Hulsey said.
No one aside from Espinoza, who is being held without bail, is expected to face charges in the infant's disappearance and death, Hulsey said.
A memorial trust fund account in care of Angelle Negron has been set up with Bank of America to receive donations to help pay for her funeral expenses, Morales said.
The girl's funeral will be held in Salinas on Monday and her mass and burial will be Tuesday, the girl's grandmother said Wednesday.
Angelle was born April 16 in Santa Cruz, according to an online obituary on the Alta Vista Mortuary's website.
