A man was shot in the head during a robbery in Mountain View on Monday afternoon, according to police.

Police said the victim, described only as a Mountain View resident in his 20s, was walking on Fairchild Drive near Tyrella Avenue at about 1:15 p.m. when a man armed with a handgun approached him.

A struggle ensued over the victim's property and the victim was shot in the head, police said. The bullet only grazed him, however. He was treated for the non-life-threatening wound at a hospital and released.

Police set up a perimeter and searched the area for the suspect but came up empty. The suspect was described as black, about 6 feet tall and in his mid-20s. He was wearing a dark-colored baseball cap and dark-colored jeans at the time of the robbery.

Police said they were pursuing leads and did not plan to release any other information Monday night.

Anyone with information about the robbery and shooting is asked to call the police department at 650-903-6344. Callers may remain anonymous.
