HAYWARD -- Police are searching for a man in a silver Honda they say shot at a pedestrian near the Hayward BART station Monday.

Officers responded to 671 A Street at 12:47 p.m. after a man reported he had been shot at three to four times as he stood on the sidewalk, Lt. Ruben Pola said. The victim, who was not hit, said he did not know the shooter, who pulled up next to him in the silver Honda and started an altercation.

The man circled around the block, the witness said, and then came back and started shooting. He took off westbound on A Street and has not been seen since.

While multiple people nearby reported hearing the shots fired from the unknown caliber firearm, police did not have were still looking for any witnesses who may have seen the man shoot the gun from his vehicle, Pola said.
