SANTA ANA -- Orange County prosecutors say a note scrawled by a woman minutes before her death was the clue that led to her killer.
The Orange County Register (http://bit.ly/17Lm9US ) says jurors heard Wednesday that Elizabeth Begaren scribbled down the license plate number of a car that followed her onto an Anaheim freeway on-ramp before she was shot more than 15 years ago.
Authorities say the piece of paper with the scribble led them to a gang member who claims Begaren's husband arranged the killing. Prosecutors say Nuzzio Begaren wanted to collect on a $1 million insurance policy. The husband could face a life sentence if convicted.
His defense argued Wednesday that authorities pressured the gang member into falsely incriminating Begaren.
