SACRAMENTO -- A woman has pleaded not guilty to murder in the death of her 4-year-old daughter, who was found clinging to life in the trunk of a parked car in a quiet Sacramento neighborhood.
The Sacramento Bee reports (http://bit.ly/1hgSXsF ) 29-year-old Aquelin Talamantes entered the plea Monday.
Along with the murder charge, prosecutors filed a second allegation of assault on a young child.
The girl was found in the trunk last week by officers conducting a welfare check requested by concerned family members. Police suspect she was injured at her home in Davis and then put in the trunk by her mom and brought to Sacramento.
The girl, identified as Tatianna Garcia, died at a hospital.
Talamantes was ordered to return to court Oct. 15.
