EBAL teams are NCS bound

  • Six East Bay Athletic League teams made the North Coast Section football playoffs, which begin Nov. 9. In Division I, California High earned the No. 2 seed behind De La Salle, followed by No. 4 San Ramon Valley, No. 5 Amador Valley, No. 7 Foothill and No. 8 Monte Vista. In Division II, Livermore earned the No. 9 seed and will play at Dublin on Nov. 9.

    SRV, Monte Vista on collision course

  • The San Ramon Valley and Monte Vista high school girls water polo teams have so far looked every bit like the top two seeds in the North Coast Section Division I playoffs. On Nov. 3, No. 1 San Ramon Valley beat eighth-seeded Foothill 20-4, and No. 2 Monte Vista got past No. 10 Granada 17-8. Should the Wolves and the Mustangs win their semifinal matches on Nov. 7, they will meet in the final on Nov. 10 at 4:30 p.m. at Acalanes High in Lafayette.

    California gets No. 1 seed

  • The California High girls volleyball team wrapped up the EBAL title with a four-set victory over Carondelet on Nov. 1. The Grizzlies went 13-1 in league play, one game ahead of San Ramon Valley, and now take their 15-match winning steak into the NCS playoffs. California earned the No. 1 seed for the Division I section playoffs and received a first round bye. The Grizzlies host the winner of the Nov. 7 match between Berkeley and Liberty on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.

    Foothill wins NorCal title

  • The Foothill High girls golf team won its first CIF Northern California team championship on Nov. 5. The Falcons finished with a five-player team score of 395, well ahead of St. Francis-Sacramento (402), Mission San Jose (404) and Justi-Siena-Napa (404). Katie Sborov shot a 1-under 71 at Brookside Country Club in Stockton, followed by sister Alex Sborov (73), Winky Wong (82), Lulu Huang (84) and Ashna Jasuja (85). Competing as an individual, Amador Valley's Kimberly Liu shot a 4-under 68 to finish in third place. Foothill and Liu will compete in the state championships Nov. 13 in Southern California.

  • NCS championships, water polo, Nov. 10, times TBA -- Acalanes High will host all four championship games. Matchups had not been determined at press time, but EBAL teams are in the mix for the Division I boys and girls titles.

  • Livermore at Dublin, NCS football, Nov. 9, 7 p.m. -- The No. 8 Cowboys travel to Dublin to take on the eighth-seeded Gaels in the first round of the NCS Division II playoffs.

  • Sir Francis Drake at Valley Christian, NCS football, Nov. 9, 7 p.m. -- Valley Christian, which is coming off a 41-33 win over Salesian, hosts Sir Francis Drake of Marin County in the first round of the Division IV playoffs.

    Jalen Avery, Monte Vista football -- Caught five passes for 136 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown to open the scoring against San Ramon Valley.

    Cameron Birse, San Ramon Valley football -- The Wolves' quarterback went 18-for-32 passing for 315 yards and four touchdown passes in a Nov. 2 win over Monte Vista.

  • Kaitlyn Haithcock, Monte Vista tennis -- The senior won the EBAL singles title on Nov. 2 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Nicole Hitomi of Carondelet.

  • Alex Kim, Athenian boys soccer -- Scored two goals in to lead the Owls to a 3-0 win over St. Vincent-Petaluma in the first round of the NCS Division II fall soccer playoffs on Oct. 31.
